On Ecological Literature ① | The Code of Water

To ensure effective implementation, a “Ecological Literature Discussion” column is now established to forward relevant articles for learning and exchange~

Water is a very familiar thing to us. We are physically close to water, and our thoughts are also attracted to it. Water and our lives are inextricably connected, and there are endless secrets, physical phenomena, and philosophical connotations in water. I grew up by the water and lived for many years. I like water. When I was young, I often went to a shady place by the water to read. When I was tired of reading, I looked into the distance of the water and had a strange feeling. At that moment, I was like flowing water, and my body or mind went to a far place.

Water is different from water. Naturalists divide water bodies into ponds, rivers, lakes, and oceans. The water I want to talk about is actually about the lake. The name of the lake is Dongting Lake, which is also my hometown. Dongting Lake is the great lake in my heart. The Great Lakes have nurtured me, shaped me, and nourished my spirit and literature. She is the most powerful, emotional, and meaningful blessing in my life.

How many times have I “returned”? I walked by the water in various identities, looking back on the past, observing the changes of Dongting Lake in the changing times, and exploring the unusual features of water. Living by water is a preference for human reproduction and life. In the past, we heard about the struggle between humans and water, where humans take things from the water. Water has given the land of Dongting Lake spirituality, massiveness and reputation, and has also given people difficulties, grief and wandering. The development driven by interests, such as digging sand, planting Euramerican black poplar, running Paper mill with serious pollution, destroying water bodies, and fishing with all one’s might (electric fishing, enchanting array, etc.), tends to be irreversible, and the cost of recovery and rescue is often hundreds of times higher.

The things that have been around you for years and months are the most easily overlooked. This neglect is like sand falling into the water, and without the intervention of external forces, it always maintains a silent posture. But today, people realize the importance of protecting ecology and harmonious coexistence with nature. “Returning farmland to lakes”, “ecological restoration”, and “ten year fishing ban” have become the consciousness and introspection of every big Lakers. Over the years, I have gained a new understanding of the migratory birds, animals, plants, fish, fishermen, and everything related to the Great Lakes through contact with conservation workers and volunteers. I followed the footsteps of the water with awe, compassion, and compassion, experiencing the scenery of the Great Lake in different seasons and ecosystems. I also saw a broader temperament and soul in people than the Great Lake. The sun, moon, stars, wind, frost, rain, and snow on the lake, as well as people’s joys, sorrows, joys, and sorrows, converge into an open and colorful, emotional and righteous water world. Water carries the fate of history, and its connotation is far more profound, flexible, rich, and complex than what I understand. The water is clear, illuminating the world, allowing me to see people and myself clearly. Like all the big Lakers, I gained strength from the flow of water, gained insight from nature, and gained a new life experience and consciousness. Because of the diversity and complexity, there is a clear and solemn mirror image. Faced with the current, my heart flows with sadness and sadness, as well as moved and heroic. I wrote my “Water Edge Book” in a direct, analytical, and traceable way. All of our writing about water is about deciphering the code for water.

The phrase ‘covered by the heavens, carried by the earth’ still refers to the existence of humans between heaven and earth, and the perception of all natural life. Ecological literature, in the final analysis, is a literature of human and nature. All production and economic activities centered around humans are closely related to natural ecology. So all of our writing is not a natural form of writing, and what kind of writing philosophy should we hold? I have been searching for the best literary perspective to write about, involving content, themes, and exploring issues that are not only a sketch of water and natural life in the lake area, but also a reflection on the relationship between humans and water. Water has magic, covering endless wilderness and paths, concealing all the past and souls. We cry out to the water for the past and also for the future that has been awakened.

Mountains can calm the heart, water can wash away delusions. Mountains and rivers teach us how to be simple people. A simple relationship is a harmonious relationship. To restore and rebuild Balance of nature in a simple and harmonious way, only when all species exist healthily, safely and continuously can human beings live on the earth for a long time. We are citizens of the ecological community, citizens of nature, regardless of nationality, region, or ethnicity. Every writer bears the responsibility of protecting and giving back to nature. I think we want to ‘create’ a future from the waters, forests, grasslands, mountains, and everything on the earth, where there is the most sincere trust and dependence on the earth and the world.
