On June 5th, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Central Office of Spiritual Civilization Construction, and the People’s Government of Shandong Province jointly held the national home event of the 2023 6th Five Year Environmental Day in Jinan. Sun Jinlong, Secretary of the Party Group of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Lin Wu, Secretary of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee, and Zhang Hongsen, Secretary of the Party Group of the Chinese Writers’ Association, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches; Zhou Naixiang, Deputy Secretary of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee and Governor, delivered a speech; Ge Huijun, Chairman of the Shandong Provincial Political Consultative Conference, attended. Zhai Qing, a member of the Party Group and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, presided over the event.
The theme of this year’s 6th Five Year Environment Day is “Building a Modernization of Harmonious Coexistence between Human and Nature”, aiming to showcase the historical, turning point, and global changes in China’s ecological environment protection in the new era, as well as the vivid scenes of the whole society’s participation in the construction of a beautiful China. It aims to gather consensus and strength for deepening the battle against pollution and promoting the modernization of harmonious coexistence between human and nature.
Sun Jinlong delivered a keynote speech. I hope that all sectors of society can actively participate in ecological and environmental protection, consciously practice the concept and lifestyle of simplicity, moderation, green, low-carbon, and civilized health, and work together to turn the grand blueprint of building a beautiful China into a beautiful reality.
Zhou Naixiang said in his speech that Shandong is a populous, economic, and cultural province in China. It is a well-known “cultural holy land”, a “development highland” with surging momentum, and an “ecological blessing” for Daiqing Sea Blue. In today’s Shandong, the concept that green waters and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains is deeply rooted in people’s hearts. The excellent ecological environment has become a bright background, and a harmonious ecological picture of human and nature coexistence is slowly unfolding. We are willing to work hand in hand with all parties to deepen cooperation, promote high-quality economic and social development through high-level ecological environment protection, and make new and greater contributions to building a beautiful China.
Eng Anderson, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, delivered a video speech.
The event announced that the national home event of the 2024 June 5th Environmental Day will be held in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. After the flag awarding ceremony, Sui Guohua, Vice President of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, said that Guangxi would take the opportunity of hosting the national main event of the Sixth Five Year Environment Day in 2024 to firmly build an important ecological security barrier in southern China and contribute to the modernization of harmonious coexistence between man and nature.
This year’s National Home Events of the Sixth Five Year Plan Environment Day practice the concept of green and low-carbon, organize carbon neutrality public welfare actions, and implement the relevant requirements of carbon neutrality for large and medium-sized activities.
Officials from the Chinese Writers’ Association, relevant provincial and municipal governments, central government agencies and mass organizations, and some provincial and municipal ecological and environmental departments, as well as representatives from research institutes, universities, social organizations, enterprises, and media, participated in the event.
